Scatter

Your next outdoor app.

Scatter is one shared game across Android and the iPhone web app. Install first, then choose your username so your profile stays with the version you use.

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Scatter Play in Safari.
  2. Tap Share (the square with an upward arrow).
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen.
  4. Leave Open as Web App enabled when that option appears.
  5. Tap Add, then launch Scatter from its Home Screen icon.
  6. Choose your username, then host a game or enter your friend's code.

Keep Scatter open during play. iPhone web location can stop when your screen locks or the app goes into the background. The game shows the last successful update and warns when it becomes stale. A keep-screen-awake option may be available on supported phones.

Home Screen apps can use a separate storage context from Safari. A username chosen in a tab may not automatically carry into the installed app. Clearing website data removes that device profile; there is no email/password recovery.

Android

  1. Download the signed Scatter APK.
  2. Open the file and allow installation from the app you used to download it, if Android asks.
  3. Open Scatter, choose a username, and join or host a game.
  4. When you enable location sharing, review the permission prompts. Background location is optional.

The APK targets ARM64 Android 7 or later. Use the same signed app for future updates.

Desktop browser

Open Play to manage your profile, lobby, messages and results. Browsers with an Install option may install the web app. Outdoor location quality depends on the device's location provider; a phone is the better choice for playing on foot.

Updates and internet access

Multiplayer and new map tiles require an internet connection. Cached screens can show offline guidance, but cannot run an offline live match. If an update is ready, finish your round before choosing Reload.
